Reporting to Senior Manager, Fleet Routing this role is to provide best-in-class routing of company and hired fleet for part of the 240,000 deliveries & pickups for North America.  This role is also point to support cross-divisional deliveries and support of Appian created routes.   This position has influence to $22M in expenses related to deliveries and pickups of Book Fairs.

  • Responsible for the coordination and completion of assigned fleet routing & compliance related projects.
  • Maximize utilization of equipment and drivers by using fleet routing software.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with each Branch Manager or branch contact to ensure complete customer satisfaction.   
  • Perform all tasks related to operating the fleet routing software for the branch facilities and reviewing the route data for accuracy. 
  • Distribute the dispatch routing and all related information to the designated branch representative in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain computerized special reporting of fleet costs and recommend route enhancements to initiate fleet cost savings.
  • Review and offer improvements with Sales and Branch Management best window and hybrid routing mix.
  • Interact with the Directors of Field Operations and the Branch Managers on interrelated activities involving fleet and manpower forecasting for assigned branches.
  • Develop and maintain open lines of communication with Sales as necessary to clarify customer expectations.
  • Participate in weekly or other region conducted calls to communicate and address routing issues.
  • Record, maintain, and communicate region KPI routing reports.
  • Responsible for creating, data entry, and reporting of certain Sales/Operations Scorecard metrics.
  • Secure and input road barriers, speed restrictions, and specific school requirements for deliveries and pickups into the fleet routing program per feedback through the Daily Routing Accuracy program.
  • Ensure compliance of DOT rules and regulations for hours of service, pre & post trip inspections, and monitor delivery times against standards.
  • Develop skills to route other branches when necessary to support the routing department.
  • Responsible for ensuring routes are performed within tolerances set each year during planning phases.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy and route congruence for all branches assigned in Book Fairs.
  • Support routing analysis for Network Optimization efforts which impact all branches in Book Fairs.
  • Support routing and distribution integration of Scholastic Division shipments on Book Fairs fleet.
  • Complete additional job related tasks and responsibilities, requested by Supervisor.



  • Bachelor degree in Transportation, Logistics or related subject preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous background in fleet dispatching and routing internal fleet desired.
  • Professional phone skills and etiquette.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, disciplined, a strong work ethic, commitment to quality, ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience/knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance is beneficial
  • Technical knowledge in MS Office Suite (e.g. Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Technical knowledge with Mapping programs.
  • Customer Service focused
  • Ability to travel as required for training
  • Must have clear communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical ability and team player mentality.
  • Multi-task orientated, efficient and accurate under pressure.
  • Ability to regularly interface with middle management.
