To work in a fun and energetic environment on some of the biggest, most recognizable brands in children’s publishing.


The position reports directly to the Director of Creative Services in the Trade Marketing department. Working with the Creative Director and a team of copywriters and designers, the Sr. Design Lead is responsible for creating a wide range of materials to promote children’s books for toddlers, middle-graders, and teens in support of our marketing, publicity, sales, and conventions teams.


The ideal candidate is creative, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment independently and within a team. The ideal candidate should also be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to multitask. They must be able to conceptualize, communicate, and execute design solutions based on initial strategic direction, give design direction to junior staff, and manage/recruit outside freelancers. Excellent typography skills and experience building files to finished production standards using the most current Adobe Creative Suite programs are a must.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conceive/produce/collaborate great ideas and design based on creative briefs and marketing strategy
  • Lead creative briefings and brainstorming sessions while contributing creative and logistical solutions
  • Develop design concepts independently and collaboratively, working closely with all levels of the creative team, including project managers, and art directors
  • Design a wide variety of print materials, including advertisements, logos, posters, postcards, POP, bookmarks, event invitations, signage, catalogs, and sell sheets
  • Design a variety of digital marketing assets including website banner ads, graphics, and social media posts
  • Prepare print and digital files for production



  • BA/BFA in Graphic Design
  • 7+ years of experience in print and digital graphic design
  • A mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) and a strong understanding of the production process for both print and web; motion graphic and video experience a plus
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multitask, shift priorities when needed, work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and react quickly and smoothly to changes
  • Ability to present ideas and communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Meticulous attention to design detail and quality
  • Ability to collaborate with other staff, offer and receive design feedback in a group setting
  • Lead direction and give creative feedback to junior team members and manage outside freelancers
  • Ability to take initial direction and then execute independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong conceptual planning, creative design, and typography skills
  • Composed and flexible under pressure
  • Interest in book publishing and children’s brands; familiarity with children’s book publishing a plus
