We are looking for a Part-Time Warehouse Worker/On-Call Driver.  

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and road time while supporting our mission of improving literacy among children.

For candidates that do not currently hold a Commercial Driver License (Class A or B), this position includes a paid training program, which incorporates in-house and on-the-road training.  Scholastic Drivers generally operate 26-28 foot straight box trucks.

The Driver Trainee will work with a Driver Mentor who is a tenured and experienced Driver and assist with the pickup and deliveries which require the loading and unloading of company trucks at Branch locations and Schools, utilizing all safety procedures during this process.  
 
Driver Trainee will be provided proper equipment including uniforms and shoes and must maintain a professional appearance. Once the training program has been completed, a successful candidate will be qualified to the status of Deliver Driver.   Scholastic Book Fairs Trainees adhere to all Company, local, state, and federal rules/regulations inclusive of, but not limited to, DOT, OSHA, etc.   Scholastic Book Fairs takes pride in being a drug and alcohol free Company.
 
Qualifications:
  • High school Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver license.
  • Must pass drug/alcohol screen, Motor vehicle record review, Criminal background and DOT Physical.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle weighing up to 34,000 GVW
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 70lbs and push, pull, lift and handle metal cases (on wheels) of 350 lbs or more on a regular and repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to read road maps and follow directions.
  • Ability to utilize electronic On-Board Truck computer in daily operations for DOT Compliance and company reporting.
  • Ability to sit and stand for periods of time.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, basic math skills and the ability to read.
  • Customer service orientated.
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience with Scholastic Book Fairs. (Internal Only)
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Possess valid driver license.
  • Must pass a drug screen/alcohol screen, Motor Vehicle Record review, criminal background review, and a DOT physical examination indicating physical essential functions of job can be performed as required.
  • Must be able to drive vehicle weighing up to 34,000 GVW.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 70 lbs. and push, pull, lift and handle metal/plastic cases weighing more than 350lbs on a regular and repetitive basis.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to utilize scanner systems effectively with minimal errors.
  • Forklift experience is a plus.
  • Customer service orientated.
  • Ability to stand/walk/sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a calculator.
  • Must be able to read road maps and follow directions.
  • Ability to work over time and weekends as needed.
  • Strong team player and the ability to get along with co-workers.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read.
