We are looking for an associate editor to join SuperScience, Scholastic's classroom science magazine for grades 3 through 6 (upper elementary school students). The associate editor will work on all components of the product including engaging feature articles, science news stories, hands-on experiments, assessments, teaching resources, and online materials. This is a wonderful opportunity for a science-savvy writer to join the world’s largest children’s publisher and have a positive effect on the lives of hundreds of thousands of students nationwide.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Editor to develop highly engaging feature articles, news shorts, videos, digital resources, and activities covering a range of curriculum-based science topics for grades 3-6.
  • Report and write articles and other materials covering life science, Earth science, physical science, and engineering.
  • Research, fact-check, edit, and proofread stories by staffers and freelancers.
  • Work with art directors to develop the design of the magazine and its print and digital resources.
  • Communicate with teachers to remain closely attuned to trends in teaching approaches and pedagogies relevant to the magazine.
  • Contribute to social media presence.
  • Work with a team to continuously evolve magazine and web offerings to ensure that the magazine remains relevant to the changing needs of teachers and readers.

B.S. or B.A. required. M.A. or M.S. preferred.

• Proven writing, editing, and proofreading abilities

• High-level reporting and researching skills

• Fluency with science concepts and awareness of science news topics

• Passion for education and a flair for presenting information in an engaging way

• Educational publishing or editorial experience preferred

• Knowledge of primary education and Next Generation Science Standards preferred
