Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Analytics for Scholastic Book Fairs this position plays a key role in providing crucial internal analytical insights to Scholastic’s Global Operations leadership team, and, in a consulting capacity, to other strategic areas of the company.  This role focuses on identifying savings opportunities within and strategic decision impacts to Scholastic Book Fairs’ supply and distribution network, aiming to expand cross-divisional synergies and increase margin. This role also provides metrics and reporting support to the field, enabling management improvement and performance measurement. This role directly impacts $22M in annual freight spend and $53M in annual distribution & facilities spend, as well as overall supply chain & distribution network strategies.



·         Perform analysis on routing data to include:

·         County versus Window routing

·         Router effectiveness

·         Actual versus Planned

·         Historical delivery/pickup analysis

·         Predictive analytics on SpeedGauge data

·         Perform Fleet Optimization analysis on a yearly basis to include:

·         Identification of own vehicle fleet size

·         Ratio of Own versus Hired by branch

·         Transfer of assets based on historical and projected usage

·         Impact of replacement strategy

·         Perform

·         Analyze supply chain, transportation, and distribution network for various projects as requested

·         Perform numerous Distribution and Freight analyses to reduce cost & time to streamline operations

·         Identify insights from data analytics that support recommendations

·         Provide recommendations for process/cost improvement opportunities based on analysis of data

·         Establish, maintain, and communicate various assigned supply chain and transportation metrics

·         Analyze risks and opportunity considerations and develop insights to guide executives in business decisions

·         Create ad hoc reporting and develop new reporting tools to support departmental and field objectives. Maintain, revise, & work towards automation of regular reporting

·         Provide support as requested as a SME for freight payments

·         Assist in the development of fleet & network strategy. Provides recommendations to leadership

·         Manage special projects as requested

·         Identify technical process improvements and document standard operating procedures (SOP) for technical activities

·         Provide analytics on request WMS data projects as needed

·         Predictive analytics on warehouse and driver turnover

·         Product assortment analytics supporting analysis done in other departments (utilizing SAS)

·         Development and maintenance of necessary dashboards to communicate key performance indicators (KPIs)




·         Strong analytical ability is a must

·         Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required (ex, pivot tables, macros, advanced formulas - Vlookup, index/match)

·         Ability to use regression analysis in efforts, or willingness to learn

·         Ability to combine information from multiple systems into an integrated reporting structure

·         Prior experience with SQL or desire to learn

·         Prior experience with Tableau, or desire to learn

·         Ability to learn data tools such as (SSRS, SSIS, PowerPivot, Toad, SQL Server Management Studio, Hyperion SmartView, Microsoft Access, Oracle, SAS, and IBM AS400 iSeries) required Technical knowledge in Mapping/routing tools (such as MapPoint, Maptitude, & Appian's Direct Route) preferred

·         Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related subject required.

·         Minimum of one to three (1-3) years in a logistics, finance, or data analytics field required.

·         Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal skills

·         Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

·         Self-motivated, resourceful, disciplined, a strong work ethic, commitment to quality, ability to work in a fast paced environment

·         Comfortable with ambiguity

·         Team player mentality

·         Multi-task oriented, efficient, and accurate under pressure

·         Must be a team player, able to work collaboratively with others

·         A positive, can-do attitude, professional appearance and demeanor

·         Ability to maintain confidential information

·         Ability to interface both with field personnel and executives

·         Ability to take ownership for delivering customized projects with a high degree of autonomy
