THE OPPORTUNITY

We are the Scholastic Experience Design Team, a team of UX and Visual Designers within STS, working across Scholastic’s digital properties. We exist to create compelling, cohesive and lasting products and experiences. Driving our efforts is a deep understanding of the functional and emotional needs of our users, in order to produce impactful results for our users and the business alike.

We are seeking a college student to take part in the Software Technology Services (STS) Internship Program for Summer 2019. The Design Research internship is catered towards university students with experience in Design, Product, Research or Technology.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Design Researcher, you’re eager to build your toolkit and expand your craft. You have a passion for investigative geniuses, delving deep to uncover and champion users needs and contexts to help successfully connect business strategies to consumer mindsets.

• Support the Design Research Director in planning and authoring surveys, studies and user interviews to gather qualitative insights to inform product design thinking, prioritization and optimization efforts.
• Assist executing research plans for usability testing, concept testing, card sorting and interviews
• Help with coordinating and managing ongoing user recruitment for studies across channels
• Note-take, analyze and help provide top-line recommendations and reporting on raw data from user testing efforts
• Strive to positively promote design thinking and a consumer first mindset throughout Scholastic.
• Communicate and deliver research insights in creative and effective ways among the team


HOW YOU CAN FIT

• Must be a rising senior currently enrolled in an accredited program or university
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills
• Passion for uncovering problems and brainstorming solutions
• Empathy for customers using technology products and web services

Preferred Skills and Knowledge (not required for consideration):

• Experience in project planning, documentation tools, product management and project tracking
• Experience with multimedia tools and editing videos to tell a compelling story
• Understanding of UX Design roles
• Familiarity with UX Design best practices
• Knowledge of publishing industry
