Responsible for global safety, quality assurance and compliance for Scholastic products for all countries where the product is distributed. Interaction and application of all aspects of the global test program, lead corrective actions and process improvements, support product development activities and staff training, drive change as needed in a complex global environment, participate in collaborative and transparent communication with Safety team, business partners, labs, and vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

• Work with product development teams on all matters related to compliance requirements applicable to their product categories. 
• Design hazard risk assessments 
• Product review for safety labeling requirements and compliance 
• Oversee all aspects of preliminary and final production sample testing, including but not limited to corrective actions and re-testing
• Review quotes and invoices for accuracy/approval
• Collect, review and finalize safety documentation as needed before products can be released to ship.
• Input and maintain safety data and documentation in Scholastic’s databases.
• Create and maintain meticulous documentation on all product lines
• Research new product categories for development teams as needed to ensure safety compliance
• Make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure compliance
• Complete Product Safety and Scholastic Business training as needed under Manager's supervision, as well as continued training as needed
• Participate in cross training with safety team in order to provide coverage when needed
• Address quality issues as they arise with key stakeholders and vendors
• Attend meetings, seminars, webinars and conferences as requested
• Work with vendors, labs, and product teams to promote and adhere to Scholastic’s product safety protocols
o Be available to answer questions relating to Scholastic safety policies, federal and state requirements
o Prepare and present seminars for internal personnel on relevant safety issues


• Bachelor’s Degree required, a legal background a plus
• 1+ years’ experience in product safety
• Able to work in a fast paced, cross-functional, global environment
• Research and remain current with industry trends/emerging issues
• Any knowledge of current and emerging global regulatory requirements and industry standards related to toys and publishing
• Manufacturing experience, preferably with toys and juvenile products a strong plus


• Ability to analyze product test reports and determine next steps
• Strong project management skills with the ability to drive results cross-functionally
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive required
• Must be organized and highly detailed with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at once
• Must be a self-starter, and own / drive priorities within your programs
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines in a high pressure work environment
• Capable of adapting workload and priorities to meet department needs
• Problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
• Passion for kids products, crafts, science, maker movement and DIY preferred
