Reporting to the Director, Business Analysis and Decision Support for Scholastic Book Fairs, this position plays a key role in providing crucial analytical insights to the Scholastic Book Fairs leadership team.  This role is focused on identifying savings opportunities and analyzing strategic decision impacts to Scholastic Book Fairs. This role also provides metrics and reporting support to the field, enabling management improvement and performance measurement.  This person will be a self-starter whom has the ability to communicate to key stakeholder groups at the senior level.  Their insights will be used to guide business strategies.



  • Create ad hoc reporting and develop new reporting tools, dashboards, and visualizations to support departmental and field objectives.
  • Maintain, revise, & work towards automation of reporting, including moving legacy SSRS and Excel reports to Microsoft Power BI
  • Partner with leaders from multiple departments to develop reporting tailored to their needs
  • Perform quantitative analysis of various marketing and merchandising efforts to identify which programs are working and driving business results
  • Analyze supply chain, warehouse operations, and distribution network. Develop partnership with operations leaders to create reporting and recommend potential efficiency improvements through data analysis.
  • Analyze product and point of sale transactional data to report on and predict revenue, cost of sale, and gross margin results
  • Provide recommendations for process/cost improvement opportunities based on analysis of data
  • Analyze risks and opportunity considerations and develop insights to guide executives in business decisions
  • Manage special projects as requested
  • Identify technical process improvements and document standard operating procedures (SOP) for technical activities
  • Develop predictive analytics on labor hours and turnover
  • Ensure decisions resulting from strategic analyses are accounted for in financial budgets


  • Review, clean and filter large data sets, including cloud data, to build optimal data models for reporting
  • Build and interpret data models and datasets in Microsoft Power BI
  • Connect to various data sources through ODBC and SQL Queries
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) and user acceptance testing (UAT) approver for various data sources in the Scholastic Data Cloud
  • Act as the business intelligence (BI) interface with external and internal clients to improve data integrity and gain access to additional data as necessary 
  • Assist and/or train field staff on how to interpret and effectively utilize data and reports presented

  • Strong analytical ability is a must
  • Bachelor degree in Analytics, Business or related subject required. Master's degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of three years in a data analytical role is required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required (ex, pivot tables, macros, advanced index formulas)
  • Proven experience building reports and dashboards is required. Experience in Microsoft Power BI preferred.
  • Ability to combine information from multiple systems, including cloud data sources into an integrated reporting structure
  • Prior experience or ability and desire to learn data tools such as (R, SSRS, SSIS, PowerPivot, Toad, Hyperion SmartView, Microsoft Access, Tableau, SAS, etc.)
  • Strong technical knowledge in SQL or other query language is preferred
  • Experience creating and interpreting regression analysis preferred
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and disciplined with the ability to work remotely while offices are closed
  • Must be a team player, able to work collaboratively with others
  • Multi-task oriented, efficient, and accurate under pressure
  • Strong work ethic and desire to take ownership for delivering projects within required deadlines
