If you have a passion for children’s reading and education as well as building software and systems that enable Scholastic to carry out its mission, this is the internship opportunity for you! Scholastic is seeking systems and software engineers to take part in the STS Internship Program for Summer 2019.

The Software Engineer Internship role will develop, maintain, and deliver new and existing software products. This role will work as part of an interdisciplinary agile team to manage the full software development life cycle that includes ideation, testing, and implementation.  

These positions are responsible for coding, testing, debugging and making enhancements to Scholastic technology. Additionally, summer interns will take leadership in driving  a high impact project which will expose each participant to real-world problems that require value-driven solutions.

This is a 10-week program which will run from June 3, 2019-August 9, 2019.

• Demonstrate core fundamental software engineering skills
• Experience in software development and testing tools
• Exhibit competency in programming languages and industry best practices
• Understanding data structures and algorithms and how to apply them
• Demonstrate design patterns basic knowledge and how to implement
• Detail oriented, resourceful, initiative and creative

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

• Knowledge or experience with databases such as
• SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Redshift, Hive, or SQL server
• Knowledge or experience with project tracking
• tools such as Jira and Confluence
• Understanding of how back end and web based
• systems interface with each other
• Understanding of services and restful APIs
• Understanding of web programming concepts such as
• JavaScript, Ruby, Scala, HTML, CSS, and Angular JS
• Knowledge of version control practices such as
• Github, TFS, SV
